Accra: The Ghana Wheelchair Tennis Federation (GWTF), in collaboration with the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Ghana and the International Tennis Federation (ITF), organized a one-day tennis event to commemorate World International Disability Day. The event, which featured approximately thirty wheelchair tennis players from Kumasi, Takoradi, Koforidua, Cape Coast, and Accra, aimed to recruit young players into the national team. According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Henry Larbi, General Secretary for NPC-Ghana, explained that the event aligns with ITF's upcoming programs. He stated, "The whole idea is that ITF has a new strategy plan to be implemented from 2025 and to also make sure that they have education added to the sport to be able to fit in the ITF plan." Ebenezer Atta, a player from Kumasi, expressed his gratitude to the leadership of NPC-Ghana for the opportunity to participate. He shared, "I am a shoemaker at Atonsu market in Kumasi but due to this opportunity, I am able to come to Accra to part icipate in this year's competition." Atta highlighted how sports have boosted his confidence, allowing him to visit places he previously thought inaccessible. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated annually on December 3, aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities across societal spheres. It seeks to raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in political, social, economic, and cultural life.
