Keta: The Electoral Commission (EC) at Keta in the Volta Region has debunked a report released by the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), which alleged that political parties were involved in vote buying near a polling station during a special voting exercise. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Roger Avorgbedor, the Electoral Commission's Presiding Officer at Keta, stated in an interview that CODEO's reports about vote buying during the special voting exercise held at the premises of Keta Municipal Assembly on Monday, December 2, were untrue and cannot be substantiated. He emphasized that all political party agents were present since the beginning of the special voting, and no incidents of money or items being distributed to influence voters were observed. Mr. Avorgbedor asserted that the Electoral Commission at Keta would have been the first to report such an incident if it had occurred, ensuring that any culprits would have been arrested and prosecuted. He urged CODEO to retract the report and apologize to the public, highlighting the potential for creating unnecessary tension during the general election on December 7. He further clarified that while there may have been allegations of vote buying elsewhere, such activities did not take place near the polling station as reported by CODEO. Mr. Avorgbedor pointed out that Ghana News Agency was present when the special voting concluded, and conversations with party agents and other observers would have confirmed any such activities if they had occurred. The EC at Keta has distanced itself from what it called a reckless and unfortunate report, urging the public to remain calm and focused on the upcoming general election on Saturday, December 7. Meanwhile, 211 registered special voters, representing 91 percent, cast their votes out of 233 expected eligible voters during the special poll held at Keta. It was also noted that all voting materials for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections were ready and set to be distributed to the 128 polling centers within the constituency on December 7.
