HARARE-- Zimbabwe's Ministry of Mines and Mining Development will announce the new boards of directors for parastatals under its ambit next week, says the Minister, Winston Chitando.
The parastatals to have new boards include the Zimbabwe Mining Development Cooperation (ZMDC), the Zimbabwe Consolidated Mining Company (ZCDC), the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) and Hwange Colliery Company.
The Minister said here Tuesday that the new board members were bringing a wealth of experience from the sector. "Boards of the parastatals are being announced next week. ZMDC, ZCDC, and MMCZ will have new boards and additional members will be appointed to the Hwange Colliery board," he said.
"The chairpersons of the new boards have got at least ten years mining history with one or two mining ouses," he said. "At least half of the members in the boards will also have at least 10 or more years in terms of experience and background in mining houses."
There has been a general opinion that boards of mining parastatals are full of people without experience in the sector who as a result, ran the companies' operations into the ground.
