HARARE, May 22 — Qatari Foreign Affairs Minister Khalid Mohamed Al-Attiyah, who is visiting Zimbabwe as a special envoy of Qatari leader Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, has been received here by President Robert Mugabe.

The envoy told journalists after the meeting Thursday that they had discussed various ways to boost relations between Zimbabwe and Qatar. “I had the honour to meet with President Mugabe, I conveyed to him the regards of High Highness, the Emir, and we discussed ways of co-operating between Qatar and Zimbabwe,” he said. “We touched on all aspects of co-operation, how we can co-operate in agriculture, mining and tourism.”

The envoy was not keen to share the contents of the message from his leader to President Mugabe.

The two countries have previously agreed to sign co-operation agreements to stimulate trade and strengthen political relations.

Last year, Qatar and Zimbabwe signed a bilateral air service agreement which allows international commercial transport companies from the two countries to fly between the two territories.

Qatar Airways has said it will soon be introducing flights to Harare from Qatar.
