RESULT OF ZIMBABWE’S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION TO BE RELEASED WHEN VOTE COUNTING IS OVER

HARARE-- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission says the result of the presidential election from Monday's general election will only be released once counting is completed in more than 10,000 polling stations across the country.

In the Parliamentary elections which were held simultaneously, the ruling Zanu-PF party is still enjoying the lead as the results from around the country were declared. So far Zanu-PF has won 73 constituencies with the main opposition party, the MDC Alliance, winning 28 and newcomer the National Patriotic Front (NPF) trailing with one seat.

Zimbabwe's national assembly has seats and the results are trickling in.

The vast majority of constituencies in the rural provinces of Mashonaland East, West and Central have been captured by Zanu-PF. The party has also been doing well in Midlands Province which reported a high voter turnout of 75 per cent.

In Matebeleland Province, the MDC Alliance has been able to score some gains.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) advised citizens not to take seriously announcements made on social media as they are not legitimate.
