The country's biggest Afrikaans cultural festival, the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees, is underway in the Little Karoo.

The week-long event showcases various forms of theatre, music and dance.

A colourful, vibrant and exciting atmosphere has descended on the sleepy town of Oudtshoorn.

The eight-day-long KKNK festival attracts thousands of people from around the country and the 2017 event promises an exciting line-up of entertainment for visitors.

KKNK CEO Rhode Snyman says: "What excites me the most about the 23rd KKNK is the variety of what's happening in Oudtshoorn over the course of the next week .Today is lovely hot day and everybody is having a good time."

The festival coincides with the long Easter weekend and school holidays, making it ideal for families to spend quality time.

A must-see in 2017 is the street theatre, which is making its second return in the festival's history.

The festival is promoting young and upcoming artists. The festival ends on the 15th of April.
