PRETORIA, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged traditional leaders to improve the lives of rural people. Ramaphosa was speaking at the Inaugural Traditional Leaders Indaba in Boksburg.

The Indaba provided a platform for the leaders to engage with government on their role in land matters and radical economic development.

The Deputy President says South Africa cannot overcome poverty, unemployment and inequality without the traditional leaders.

You are the guardians of our hard won freedom you remain central to the deepening of democracy and effective governance."

Lamenting women and child abuse, Ramaphosa urged traditional leaders not to turn a blind eye.
