PRETORIA, President Jacob Zuma, in his capacity as Chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), is expected to attend the Summit of the SADC Organ Troika plus Chairperson of SADC.

The summit, which expected to discuss the unfolding developments in Zimbabwe, will take place in Luanda, Angola on Tuesday.

The Presidency said on Sunday the summit will be hosted by Angolan President Joao Lourenco, who is the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security.

Earlier this week the Zimbabwean military allegedly took control of State institutions and confined President Robert Mugabe and his wife to their house, saying it was targeting criminals in government who are bent on destabilising the country.

On Sunday Zimbabwe's ruling party announced that President Robert Mugabe had been removed from his position as president and first secretary of the ZANU PF by a unanimous vote at a Central Committee Special Session in Harare. The party said he has been given until midday on Monday to resign from his position as Head of State.

Zuma on Saturday said the SADC region is committed to providing support to the people of Zimbabwe to resolve the political situation that has arisen.

A stable and peaceful SADC region is in our best interest, and Zimbabwe is a critical member of our regional community, said the President.

Addressing the launch of the InvestSA One Stop Shop in Durban, the President reaffirmed the African Union directive against unconstitutional changes in government within the continent, which all SADC member states should abide by.
