HARARE, July 22– The High Court here has sentenced three supporters OF Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu-PF party to an effective 15 year prison term each after convicting them of killing an activist from the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party after the 2008 presidential election run-off.

Nobert Muzhingi, Thabani Mashonganyika and Sikhumbuzo Madhuveko allegedly murdered John Max on Aug 25, 2008 at Chidhuri Buffalo in Kadoma, about 150 kilometres southwest of here, two months after the polls.

According to State papers, the Zanu PF activists accused Max of having testified against them when they were charged with assault during the presidential election run-off.

The court heard that on the day in question, Max left home for a drink at a local bar where he was approached by the trio who were in the company of three others — Lovemore Nyikadzino, Tinashe Makaurire and Paul Muzenda.

The gang allegedly took Max to a nearby bush where they forced him to lie down and took turns to assault him.
