HARARE, ZANU PF Youth League, the youth win of Zimbabwe's ruling party, has launched a social media election campaign code named, #EDHasMyVote hashtag, to re-affirm its confidence in the party's presidential candidate in this year's elections, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Coincidentally, Mnangagwa, popularlyy known as ED, who rose to the presidency after a military intervention code-named Operation Restore Legacy which resulted in the resignation of former president Robert Mugabe late last year, has been active on most social media sites.
ZANU PF Youth League Secretary Pupurai Togarepi said here over the weekend the youth wing was launching the campaign after it realised that most youth are active on social media.
"We are communicating to the youths that ED is the man. He is the man with the aspirations of the youth at heart, a leader who is approachable, who is resilient, a leader who is committed to seeing Zimbabwe moving forward," he added.
"For us to benefit, if we vote ED into office this 2018, we are encouraging the youth to communicate, share their views among themselves, to express themselves, with the government on social media in order for
the people to understand the message and policies of ZANU PF."
President Mnangagwa has told regional and international leaders that Zimbabwe will hold free, fair and credible elections and has broken from the past by inviting the European Union to take part in the observation of the elections.
