Seven people died on the spot while five others were injured when a pick-up truck they were travelling in plunged into Tsambe River at a bridge near Daviar Farm in Glendale early today. According to witnesses, the truck driver failed to give way to a tractor as he entered Foothills Road near the bridge. The driver is said to have panicked and lost control before the vehicle plunged into the river.

The accident scene , Tsambe River bridge is at the border of Mazowe and Bindura districts near Daviar Farm along Foothills Road. The double-cab truck had 12 people on board when the accident occurred, 10 of them from the Kwerera family who had hired the vehicle on a mission to consult a local prophet.

The family lost six members, among them three children, in the accident. People who helped retrieve the bodies of the deceased who are suspected to have drowned and to rescue the five injured, were still in a state of shock as they recounted the horror .

Some of the relatives of the deceased who later arrived at the accident scene were also at a loss for words. The injured were rushed to Concession Hospital where the bodies of the deceased were also taken to.

The names of the deceased were still to be released by the police as their next of kin had not been notified.
