HARARE, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared that institutions of higher learning must fight corruption.

As debate continues to rage over the authenticity of former Zimbabwe First Lady Grace Mugabe's PhD degree, President Mnangagwa warned Tuesday against the awarding of degrees to unqualified candidates.

In November, as former President Robert Mugabe was facing calls to resign, students at the University of Zimbabwe demonstratedS demanding that Grace Mugabe's doctorate be recalled.

Mnangagwa on Tuesday met vice chancellors of universities and principals in Harare in his capacity as Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe and weighed in on the issue.

Higher learning institutions should abhor corruption and practices which have seen undeserving students getting passes must stop, he declared.
