HARARE, July 29 — Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe says his ruling Zanu PF party fully supports the presidential candidate for Mozambique’s ruling party Frelimo, Jacinto Filipe Nyusi, and tips him to win the country’s Oct 15 presidential election.

Nyusi, who was defence minister until he was nominated by Frelimo to be its candidate, is visiting Zimbabwe and he and his delegation paid a courtesy call on President Mugabe at State House here Monday. The Mozambicam Constitution bars incumbent President Armando Guebuza from seeking a third term in office.

In the 2009 polls, Guebuza won resoundingly with 75 per cent of the vote over his closest rival, former Renamo rebel group leader Alfonzo Dhlakama, who garnered just 16 per cent.

Addressing journalists after the meeting with Nyusi, President Mugabe said Zanu PF was fully in support of the Frelimo presidential candidate Nyusi and was confident the party would win resoundingly.

“Zanu PF and Frelimo are one, so their candidate is our candidate. We will also support him from here and so wish him well, and we wish him success,” said President Mugabe, who was confident the Mozambique electorate would vote for Frelimo, the party with their interests at heart.

“We say already because we know people will always choose those who have their interests at heart.”

He added that Frelimo would win the polls ahead of opposition parties just as Zanu PF beat the MDC-T in Zimbabwe’s harmonized elections last year.

“And it is Frelimo, there is no other. You have Renamo there which is like MDC and you know what happened last July 31. That is what is going to happen on the 15th of October so we all say victory is certain. Aluta
continua,” added President Mugabe.
