SAP Fioneer launches tailored SME banking offering

WALLDORF, Germany, June 22, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — SAP Fioneer, a leading global provider of financial services software solutions and platforms, has announced the launch of its Fioneer SME Banking Edition. The solution will enable banks and neobanks to offer banking capabilities in a digital-first and data-driven approach, tailored to the financial needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) – a historically underserved market segment.

The SME sector is a vital component of the global economy, accounting for 99% of UK and EU businesses and employing approximately 16.4 million and 84 million people respectively.* Despite making up a significant proportion of GDP and the workforce, SMEs have traditionally struggled to access financial services that meet their unique needs, as the perceived risks and costs associated are deemed too high.

Fioneer SME Banking Edition addresses these challenges by connecting banks to external data sources such as Open Banking, central company registry, e-commerce and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) data, to form actionable insights that significantly help SMEs to stay ahead. This will give SMEs clear transparency about cashflow and provide insight to the banks and enable e.g. smart funding options, offering more variety and increasing the number of businesses banks can serve.

As a unique end-to-end solution, Fioneer SME Banking Edition covers front-to-back capabilities and seamlessly integrates with any core banking system. It enables banks to offer services that go beyond traditional banking products such as loans and deposits. Banks will be able to broaden their offering with embedded services and stronger financial advice directly for SMEs. The solution can also be easily integrated and connect to ecosystems via pre-configured APIs.

Charlie Platt, Managing Director of Banking at SAP Fioneer, comments on the launch: “SMEs represent the lifeblood of the economy, and it is critical that they are able to access the financial services they deserve. Through our SME Banking Edition, banks will be able to create commercially viable, unique and better banking experiences for SMEs that will help them to stay ahead in a challenging economic environment.”

“The introduction of our Fioneer SME Banking Edition significantly strengthens how banks interact with SMEs. Utilizing our proven technology, we’re facilitating banks to better serve SMEs in a dynamic economic landscape. Drawing inspiration from the B2C market, we’re empowering banks to elevate their service offerings for SMEs,” adds Dirk Kruse, CEO of SAP Fioneer.

Zimbabwe’s poll candidates told to pay in cash

Zimbabwe’s electoral commission has told some would-be candidates for August’s elections that their registration fees need to be paid in cash.

Wednesday’s deadline for registration was extended by one day because of problems with the payment system, meaning some candidates' fees could not be processed.

The country faces cash shortages of both the US dollar and its local currency.

Candidates from smaller parties have complained that the 20-fold hike in registration fees has reduced the number of candidates fielded.

Presidential candidates must stump up $20,000 (£16,000), up from $1,000 in 2018, and fees for those running for parliament were raised from $50 to $1,000.

One of the few women who wanted to run for president told the BBC her application was rejected last night when the electoral commission failed to accept a stamped document from her bank when their payment system failed.

She said it was “a system designed to keep people out”.

Zimbabwe has one of the highest rates of inflation in the world. The average civil servant earns as little at $300 a month.

The ruling Zanu-PF party has fielded candidates for all seats.

Zapu, a small opposition party, opted not to field a presidential candidate using the money to pay for 20 people to run in parliamentary seats, it said in a statement.

The main opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has complained that there have been multiple fraudulent applications on its behalf.

It says this is aimed at having several CCC candidates on the ballot in some constituencies in order to split the vote in favour of Zanu-PF.

African Beach Games: 21st ANOCA Ordinary session opens in Hammamet [Upd 1]

Works of the 21st Ordinary session of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) opened Thursday in the resort city of Yasmine Hammamet with the participation of 52 African Olympic Committees.

The event is part of the 2nd African Beach Games due on June 23-30.

In a speech delivered remotely, President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach extended thanks to Tunisia for organising this second edition. He also said he is confident in the success of this event which will anchor the values of African solidarity and brotherhood for a more beautiful world through sports.

The ANOCA Ordinary Session which is taking place one year before the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will help African Olympic committees step up efforts to secure an honorable participation of African athletes in the Paris Olympic Games and achieve better results than those in Tokyo Games. Better conditions for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar will also be debated.

The 21st ANOCA Ordinary Session, Bach said, will be an opportunity to prepare the ground for enhanced performances by African Athletes and demonstrate Africa's ability to win the bet of organising international events.

Minister of Youth and Sports Kamal Deguiche laid emphasis on the importance of Tunisia's organisation of the African Beach Games and the country's keenness to uphold the embedded values of fraternity and solidarity.

ANOCA President Mustapha Berraf said this ordinary session offers the opportunity to emphasise the importance of the contribution of African Olympic committees to supporting African sports and athletes and promoting sport governance.
