Genocide in Gaza targets “existence” of Palestinian people, warns President Saïed

The ongoing crime of genocide in Palestine, witnessed by the whole world and whose cruelty is leaving its mark, is not aimed at a particular faction or movement, but rather at the "existence" of an entire people, President Kais Saied said. Speaking on Wednesday in a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Nabil Ammar, President Saïed pointed out that the Zionist entity will no longer be able to achieve any breakthrough or a feat on the ground. Helpless and unable to counter the relentless blows of the Palestinian resistance, the Zionist entity resorts to assassinations, a cowardly practice it has long been accustomed to. Citing history by way of example, the Head of State referred to the tragic assassination of UN mediator Count Bernadotte in a bomb attack on the King David Hotel in the holy city of Al-Quds in 1948, against the backdrop of his stance on the conflict between the Palestinians and the Zionist movement. As a reminder, the assassination was plotted and carried out by Zionist gangs affiliated to the "Irgun" and "Stern" terrorist organisations, whose leaders were Menachem Begin and Yitzhak Shamir, who later became prime ministers of Israel. President Saïed cited the arrest by the Israeli occupation authorities of Bishop Hilarion Capucci, who had been forced into exile far from Palestine and all Arab countries, wondering if such personalities had been members of terrorist groups. Going on, the Head of State added that the crimes of assassination perpetrated outside the Palestinian territories are countless, referring to the assassinations of Palestinian political leaders, notably Kamel Adwen, Kamel Nasser, Abu Youssef al-Najjar during the Verdun operation in 1973, Abu Hassen Salama in 1979, Khalil Wazir "Abu Jihad" cowardly assassinated in Tunisia in 1988, member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and its spokesman Ghassen Kanafani, and Abu Iyad Salah Khalef killed in Tunis and Mohamed Zouari in Sfax. International news age ncies on Tuesday evening reported the assassination of Deputy Chairman of the Political Bureau of Hamas Saleh al-Arouri and other leaders in a Zionist raid on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. The raid also left at least eleven people injured. Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse

Prophet, son granted GHC3-million bail in alleged property fraud

Daniel Nkansah, founder of New Pentecost Vision Church, who was held over alleged GHC 2-million-cedi property fraud has been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court. Nkansah, a 59-year-old former presidential candidate for the New Vision Party, was admitted to bail in the sum of million cedis with three sureties to be justified. His son, Daniel Boahene Nkansah, a 34-year-old Administrator, who is an accomplice, was also admitted to bail in the sum of GHC1 million with two sureties to be justified. The court presided over by Mrs Afia Owusuwa Appiah ordered the accused persons to report to the police every two weeks. The accused persons are alleged to have collected the money under the pretext of selling nine properties and houses in some suburbs in Accra but failed. The matter has been adjourned to February 6. The accused persons have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime to wit defrauding by false pretences and defrauding by false pretences. They have pleaded not guilty. The court in December l ast year remanded Prophet Nkansah after it issued a bench warrant for his arrest for failing to appear before it. Boahene Nkansah, his son, was, however, present. The police then picked up Nkansah and arraigned him. At today's proceedings, a team of three lawyers represented Nkansah and his son. One of the lawyers prayed for bail for the accused persons saying for now, they were deemed innocent until proven guilty by the court. Defence counsel said Nkansah was a former presidential candidate, who also had a church with people under him. According to the defence counsel, the matter before the court was civil and same was before the High Court. It held that the accused persons were not flight risk and that they had cooperated with the Police, and not in the position to interfere with police investigations. Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Samuel Ahiabor did not oppose to bail but prayed the court that the conditions of the bail should be such that the accused persons would appear to stand trial. The accused persons are alleged to have collected GHC 2,030,000 from one Adam Sadiana for nine landed properties with buildings, but failed because they claimed they had issues at the court in relation to some of the properties. The said landed properties were said to be at Achimota, Radio Gold, Mataheko, Bubuashie, Dansoman, Adabraka, Odorkor, Ateku and Laterbiokoshie. When the accused persons brought photocopies of the site plans of the properties the police found out that they had names of different owners - Boakye Samuel, Kofi Annan, Augustina Okyere, Etornam Ami Tamakloe and George Opare. They failed to produce the holders of the site plans. The Police said investigations showed that the accused persons did not have any title to the various properties they showed to the complainant. In one of the cases, a property with bungalows was found to belong to KATECO Senior High School at North Kaneshie, the prosecution said. Source: Ghana News Agency

“It’s time to settle cases that have been pending for over a decade,” insists President Saïed

Meeting on Wednesday Justice Minister Leila Jaffel, President Kais Saïed spoke of the backlog of cases pending before the courts. "It's time to settle the cases that have been pending before the courts for more than a decade," pleaded the Head of State, quoted in a Presidency of the Republic press release. President Saïed further urged sitting judges to assume their "historic responsibility" to purge the country of the sprawling networks that continue to plague the country, and are often subservient to foreign interests. The President of the Republic also issued instructions to initiate legal proceedings against anyone who has contributed to the sabotage and looting of a number of establishments and companies, pointing out that there is ample evidence to suggest that these establishments had been deliberately bankrupted in order to hand them over to a handful of lobbies, notably since the entry into force of the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) in Tunisia.
