Accra: Awake Drinking Water, a subsidiary of Kasapreko Company Limited, has generously contributed GHS 150,000 to the National Cardiothoracic Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. This donation aims to support the treatment of heart diseases, coinciding with this year’s World Heart Day.

According to Ghana News Agency, the donation is set to provide financial relief to patients undergoing open-heart surgeries. Ms. Linda Naomi Aidoo, the Marketing Managing Director of Kasapreko, highlighted that this contribution is part of the company’s quarterly donation initiative. Since its inception in 2016, these donations have facilitated approximately 140 heart surgery procedures.

Mr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, expressed gratitude towards Awake Drinking Water for their unwavering support. He urged the public to embrace healthier eating habits, emphasizing the importance of consuming more vegetables, reducing carbohydrate intake, and avoiding refined sugars and processed foods. He further encouraged regular exercise of at least 25 minutes daily and routine health check-ups for early disease detection.

World Heart Day, observed annually on September 29, aims to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases, including heart failure. The World Health Organization reports that cardiovascular diseases are responsible for approximately 34 percent of deaths related to Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The theme for the 2025 celebration is ‘Don’t miss a beat’.
