Kumasi: President John Dramani Mahama will on Sunday, January 19, pay a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The visit is part of the President's engagement with traditional rulers as part of efforts to resolve the decades-old Bawku Conflict.

According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama disclosed his planned visit to Otumfuo during a courtesy call on the Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, at his Palace in Nalerigu, the North East Regional Capital, on January 15. On the same day, the President held a similar engagement in Bawku with Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, the Overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area in the Upper East Region.

President Mahama informed Nayiri that in his last briefing with former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo before leaving office, he discussed some invitation efforts they were undertaking. He expressed his wish to discuss it further with Otumfuo to continue those efforts.

He acknowledged the previous involvement of Nayiri, the late Yagbonwura, and Otumfuo in resolving the Dagbon problem. President Mahama mentioned that former President Akufo-Addo indicated Otumfuo had been playing roles in these efforts, leading to the planned meeting on January 19. He assured that any outcomes from the meeting with Otumfuo would be communicated to Nayiri.
