Man takes own life after allegedly killing girlfriend in Omusati

The Namibian Police Force in the Omusati Region are investigating a case in which a 44-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death by her 60-year-old boyfriend before he took his own life. Crime Investigations Coordinator for Omusati, Moses Simaho confirmed this to Nampa on Saturday, saying the incident occurred around 01h52 at Vunguvungu location in Okahao on Saturday. 'It is alleged that the couple were heard having an argument in their shack by a neighbour. The neighbour alerted the police after she heard suspicious movements,' he said. The police officers upon arrival found the door of the shack locked and they observed blood stains under the door. Simaho indicated that officers then had to break into the shack, where they discovered the body of the deceased lying on the floor in a pool of blood. She had multiple wounds on her back and neck. The suspect's body was hanging from the roof with a rope around his neck. Simaho identified the deceased as Uushona Anna Joima Tilimekondjo from Etunda village and Joseph Iipinge from Okahao village. Their bodies were transported to the Okahao police mortuary for a post-mortem to be conducted. The police recovered a panga, thought to be the murder weapon, from the scene. Kaouther Ben Hania’s Four Daughters wins Best Documentary at César Awards

Kaouther Ben Hania's Oscar-nominated Four Daughters (Les Filles d'Olfa) won Best Documentary at the César Awards, France's equivalent of the Academy Awards. The ceremony, which crowned Anatomy of a Fall as Best Film, took place Friday night at the Olympia Theater in Paris.The win for Four Daughters comes in the midst of final Oscar voting. As she accepted the award, Ben Hania turned her attention to the situation in Gaza, saying "it's so horrible and no one can say they were unaware. This is the first live-screen massacre, live on our phones." The film competed for the Palme d'Or at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, where it had its world premiere on 19 May 2023. It was released in France on 5 July 2023. It was selected as the Tunisian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards and was nominated for Best Documentary Feature. Former National School Feeding Coordinator to be laid to rest at Keta

Mrs Gertrude Essie Quashigah, a former National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), would be laid to rest at Keta in the Volta region on March 2. Mrs Quashigah, before her demise, was also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ambar Quality Foods Limited. These funeral arrangements, which were announced by the family of the deceased stated that a family vigil would be held on March 1, at 1900 hours at the late Major (Rtd) Courage Quashigah's residence at Dzelukope, a suburb of Keta. There would also be pre-burial and burial service that would be held on Saturday, March 2 at 0700 and 0900 hours respectively at Keta Senior High School park. 'The interment and final burial rites would be held at Zotorglo Family Cemetery at Keta at exactly 1100 hours on Saturday,' it stated. There would also be a thanksgiving service on Sunday, March 3, at the Roman Catholic Church, Dzelukope where other funeral rites would be followed immediately after burial. The late Essie Quashigah was the wife of M ajor Courage Quashigah, a former Minister of Health and Agriculture under former President John Kuffour's administration. Political figures, business personnel, friends, families, and other sympathisers would be expected to pay their last respects before the final burial rites. Police search for body of woman caught by crocodile at Mabushe

The police in the Kavango East Region on Friday commenced a search to locate the body of Vishoni Alberthina Ndumbu, who was reportedly attacked by a crocodile at Mabushe village on Thursday. The acting regional commander, Deputy Commissioner Eino Namhahu confirmed the incident to Nampa, indicating that it occurred between 18h00 and 19h00. It is alleged that the 23-year-old Ndumbu went to the Kavango River with two other women to fetch water and to fish. At some point, the victim was caught by the crocodile, which disappeared with her into deep water. The police arrived at the scene to conduct a search but could not find her body or the crocodile. Nambahu said the search on Friday morning involved staff from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism tracking the crocodile. Nambahu said the search would continue on Saturday. In another human-wildlife conflict incident in Kavango East, a 43-year-old man was hospitalised after he was attacked by a hippo at Shamvura village on Thursday. The incident took place around 07h00, and according to Nambahu, the victim, Martin Mukerenge, went to the river alone with the intention to collect water. 'A hippo attacked his canoe, resulting in it capsizing and he fell into the water. The hippo continued attacking and bit him on his left arm, causing a fracture,' he said. Nambahu said Mukerenge also sustained head injuries from a bite wound. He was rushed to the Nyangana District Hospital where he is receiving treatment. He said to be in a stable condition. Apostle Dr Ntumy laid to rest

The Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumy, a Former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost (COP), has been laid to rest in Accra. The funeral was held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra on Saturday, February 24, 2024. The ceremony was attended by Former President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Mrs Frema Osei Opare, Chief of Staff, among a host of other dignitaries, who paid their last respect to the Former COP Chairman. Members of the clergy, including Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah, a former Chairman of COP, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, current Chairman of COP, and Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, leader of Perez Chapel International, were present. Apostle Ntumy was the fourth chairman of the COP from 1998 to 2008. The news of the demise of Apostle Dr Ntumy was broken on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, through a press statement. He was 65 years. He was born on September 22, 1958, in Dadieso in the Oti Region. He left behind a widow and six adult children Apostle Dr. Michael Ntumy was a teacher in Yendi in the 1980s before becoming a Deacon and Elder of the Church. He got married to his wife, Martha, at age 24. He began full-time ministry at age 26 with the Church of Pentecost. He was called to the office of an Apostle at age 33 and six years later, elected the fourth Chairperson of the Church. After serving for two terms,10 years, he handed it over to Apostle Professor Opoku Onyinah. Apostle Ntumy is known to have survived many trials in life, including being held hostage in rebel territory during the Liberian Civil War in the 1990s. He also faced other attacks on his life ranging from physical assaults to poisoning and paralysis, which led to his confinement to a wheelchair.
