Accra: The Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey, has announced his dedication to forming strong alliances with chiefs and community leaders to implement significant reforms in the cocoa sector. Dr. Abbey made this declaration during a visit to the palace of the Gbese Mantse, Dr. Nii Ayi Bonte II.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Abbey highlighted the importance of consulting with the Gbese Mantse, who is considered the customary landlord of COCOBOD, to ensure the board's progress. While acknowledging the financial difficulties currently faced by COCOBOD, he assured stakeholders that initiatives are being put in place to rejuvenate production and fortify the cocoa sector's resilience.
Dr. Abbey emphasized a forward-looking strategy to drive sustainable progress, stating, "We recognise our financial challenges, but we are working tirelessly to revive our production levels so that we can have more to support the community's development projects." He expressed optimism about the future, aiming for sustainable growth and improved livelihoods for cocoa farmers to ensure a long-lasting cocoa industry.
Furthermore, Dr. Abbey commended the Gbese Mantse for his respected track record, which spans various fields, including sports. Dr. Nii Ayi Bonte II reflected on his enduring relationship with Dr. Abbey, noting how their collaboration has effectively addressed challenges in their respective domains.
The Gbese Mantse pledged to use his strong connections with COCOBOD to foster the growth of the cocoa sector by providing strategic advice to support and enhance the board's policies. He stated, "Our deep-rooted relationship with COCOBOD has always been a pillar of strength for our people." Additionally, Nii Ayi Abonte II urged COCOBOD to incorporate the Ga State into its corporate social responsibility programs, considering the numerous infrastructural and socio-economic challenges faced by the Ga community.
