Nkawie: Ms. Shirley Kyei, a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, has called on district, municipal, and metropolitan assemblies to work towards reducing the financial infractions highlighted in the Auditor General’s report. She emphasized the importance of initiating and implementing strategies to address these issues, thereby enabling the assemblies to recover funds and enhance their ability to execute development projects and programs to improve local living conditions.

According to Ghana News Agency, Ms. Kyei, who is also the Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya South, made her remarks during the second ordinary meeting of the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Assembly held in Nkawie. The Auditor-General’s report identified the management of Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Assembly and four other district assemblies for failing to collect rent dues totaling GHC 681,122 from 357 tenants residing in government bungalows and other properties. This report was recently presented to the PAC.

The other districts identified in the report include Ahafo-Ano North, Ahafo Ano South-West District, Ejura-Sekyedumasi Municipal, and Kumasi Metropolitan Assemblies. Ms. Kyei stressed that her primary focus is on the development and welfare of the area, urging members to prioritize growth over political affiliations.

The meeting, themed ‘An Agenda for Improved and Quality Livelihoods,’ aimed to review and adopt the Assembly’s 2026 action plan, with attendance from all assembly members and department heads. The action plan covers areas such as revenue mobilization, expenditure management, governance, accountability, environmental protection, infrastructure, human settlements, social protection, health, agriculture, and education.

Mr. Wisdom Osei Boamah, the Municipal Chief Executive, praised Ms. Kyei for her shared commitment to development and public interest in the area. He called for ongoing collaboration and cooperation to foster development-driven local governance and leave a positive legacy for future generations.
