Kibi: The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly plotting to assassinate a chief in the Eastern Region ahead of his upcoming Royal Durbar. According to a statement issued by the Police Public Affairs Unit in Kibi, the suspects, Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth, were apprehended through an intelligence-led operation.

According to Ghana News Agency, the arrests followed investigations that uncovered a plan to eliminate the chief before his first Royal Durbar, scheduled for October 17, 2025, at Akyem Kwabeng. The release, signed by DSP David Fianko-Okyere, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, stated that police acted swiftly on intelligence received on October 11.

An undercover team infiltrated the suspects’ network after receiving credible information about the plot. During the operation, Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GHS 50,000.00 to undercover officers to carry out the killing of the chief and another woman being considered for installation as Queen Mother. Asor reportedly directed her accomplice, Butuakwa Seth, to help identify the residences of the intended victims.

Police revealed that Butuakwa Seth led the undercover officers to the homes of the two targets and provided a photograph of the chief to facilitate the planned attack. The suspects also allegedly promised an additional GHS 50,000.00 upon completion of the crime.

Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court soon. The police assured the public of their continued commitment to protecting lives and maintaining security, especially for traditional leaders in the region. The Eastern South Regional Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may threaten peace and safety in their communities.
