Eastern Region Labour Department Holds Career Talks for Abobibiri Students

Accra: The Eastern Regional Labour Department has conducted a vocational guidance session for students of Abobibiri D/A Basic School in the Ayensuano District. This initiative aims to assist students in identifying career paths and aligning their studies with future ambitions.

According to Ghana News Agency, the counselling session engaged approximately 50 students, helping them to discover their interests, strengths, and future career paths. Mr. Justice Opare, Eastern Regional Labour Officer, explained in an interview that the school talk was designed to unveil students’ potentials and help them fulfill their career aspirations. The topics covered included skilled and unskilled jobs, challenges in employment seeking, exploring personal interests and strengths, and identifying career options and pathways.

Mr. Opare highlighted that such education and training could prepare school children for the labour market to enhance employability. He encouraged students to align their studies with their career ambition
s, noting that strategic academic choices help shape long-term success. “Without this alignment, you may find yourself pursuing opportunities that do not contribute to your long-term objectives,” he added.

Mr. Opare further emphasized that vocational guidance and counselling is a unique function of the Labour Department and serves as a strong catalyst in empowering students and setting them up for success. “In the national perspective, it plays a pivotal role in shaping a nation’s workforce and driving economic progress,” he noted.

On behalf of the students, Mr. Lawrence Ayisi Amaning, Assistant Headteacher of Abobibiri D/A Basic School, expressed gratitude to the Labour Department for the initiative. He assured that the students would be further guided to abide by the advice and guidance received to build a vibrant future.
