FILT: Military history and heritage at stand National Defence Ministry

Tunis: Taking part in the Tunis International Book Fair since 2006, the Ministry of National Defence is exhibiting this year at the 38th edition of the FILT, at the stand of the Heritage Directorate, the information and culture (under the ministry) a variety of cartographic documents, aerial photos taken by the National Center for Cartography and Remote Sensing as well as various publications and works which invite the passerbys to stop and browse the pages and discover a production often little or not known to readers. Director of the Department of Heritage, Information and Culture, Colonel-Major Samir Chemi, told TAP that the Ministry of Defence attaches great importance to history and culture and contributes to the publication of numerous works relating to areas such as health, historical military monuments in addition to the organization of conferences with a view to enriching cultural activities in general and historical research in particular. The regular and annual publications, the proceedings of mi litary history conferences are a production of the National Commission of Military History (created in 2003) which brings together a host of university professors, historians and military officers as part of the contribution of the ministry in order to make known the history of Tunisia on a military and human level. The works exhibited illustrated by photos, battle plans and historical contexts are based on articles developed by researchers in military history around several subjects including Tunisian military history through the ages, the different activities of the Tunisian armed forces in the field of development of the country and participation in peacekeeping operations and humanitarian activities...
