Gunu Pledges Upscaling Investments and Technology for Entrepreneurs

This announcement was made during a courtesy call by the Management of Ziavitutui Coffee and Beverages Company Limited, where they discussed their company’s profile, growth strategies, and future plans.

Mr. Gunu praised the management’s innovation in advancing coffee cultivation and processing, achieving local and international recognition. He expressed his administration’s commitment to transforming the Volta Region into an economic hub, aligning with the 24-Hour Economic program, with Ziavitutui Company playing a significant role in this vision. He encouraged companies to seek support from the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) for funding and technical assistance.

He pledged to collaborate with state agencies like the Ghana Free Zones Authority and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority to help Ziavitutui Company explore external markets. Additionally, Mr. Gunu promised to work with the Foreign Ministry to promote the Ziavitutui product internationally, leveraging the country’s missions abroad for branding.

Mr. Gunu also revealed ongoing discussions with Qatari investors interested in coffee cultivation and production, describing the meeting with Ziavitutui management as energizing. Plans are underway to revive the defunct coffee factory in Hohoe, aligning with the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative. He highlighted the unique brand of Ziavitutui coffee and its potential for local and international marketing, akin to Ghana’s cocoa.

An industrial park is in the works to host entrepreneurs with innovative products, providing a platform for production and exhibition. Support from the Ziavi Traditional Area’s Chiefs, who offered land for commercial agriculture, was noted as a positive step towards benefiting the masses. Mr. Gunu expressed optimism about establishing coffee joints at the regional capital and collaborating with hotels to serve coffee at events.

Volta Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr. William Dzamefe, noted efforts to revive the coffee and cocoa industries, with local farmers, investors, and traditional authorities committed to restoring these commodities. He emphasized the region’s fertile environment for these crops and addressed land acquisition challenges, encouraging stakeholders to persist despite obstacles.

Mr. Benjamin Horlali Kofi Atidjah, CEO of Ziavitutui Coffee and Beverages Company Limited, highlighted the area’s climate and skilled farmers as assets for producing quality coffee. He noted that interest waned after coffee was removed from the Ghana Cocoa Board’s oversight but that global demand is rekindling interest. He called for investment and government support to secure land and infrastructure, aiming to develop thousands of acres for coffee cultivation.

Dr. Kofi Debrah, Board Chair of the Company, emphasized coffee’s social and health benefits, asserting that it promotes wellness and community growth. He invited visitors to taste their coffee, reflecting the Volta soil and spirit, which, in turn, creates more jobs.
