Accra: Mr. Israel Adjetey Otchwemah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly (LEKMA), has expressed the Assembly’s commitment to sustaining the National Sanitation Day (NSD) through voluntary participation and strict enforcement of the municipality’s sanitation bylaws.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Otchwemah emphasized the importance of these efforts during last Saturday’s NSD activity in the municipality. He stated that the assembly plans to fully enforce sanitation bylaws and prosecute those who disregard regulations associated with the NSD, aiming to maintain a healthy and clean environment for all residents.
Mr. Otchwemah personally led staff members of the assembly and local residents in a cleanup effort. The initiative included sweeping streets, desilting clogged gutters, and removing overgrown weeds along the Teshie Link road to Manet junction and beyond to the Flower Pot area. The assembly has also recruited additional cleaners to support the ongoing sanitation campaign.
The MCE reiterated the commitment to prosecuting violators of sanitation laws and encouraged residents to adhere to these regulations, stressing the significance of collective effort in keeping the municipality clean. Mr. James Narh, a resident who took part in the exercise, praised the Ledzokuku MP and the Assembly for their dedication to maintaining cleanliness in the community. He called upon all residents to contribute to preserving the cleanliness of their surroundings, given the municipality’s large population and land size.
