Mahama Invites Civil Society Organisations for Discussion on Illegal Mining

Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has extended an invitation to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) for an engagement focused on the issue of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey. This meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 3, at the Presidency in Accra.

According to Ghana News Agency, a statement was released by Dr Callistus Mahama, the Executive Secretary to the President, detailing that the purpose of this engagement is to foster a platform for open and constructive dialogue between the Government and civil society. The intention is to address the challenges posed by illegal mining by leveraging collective expertise, perspectives, and solutions from both sides.

The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to addressing this national challenge through collaborative efforts with various stakeholders. The meeting is anticipated to be a significant step towards developing strategies to combat the adverse effects of illegal mining activities.
