Sunyani: A total of 217.8 kilometers of roads have been reshaped in the Bono Region under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), as announced by Mr. Theophilus Asomah-Kyeremeh, the Bono Regional Coordinator of DRIP. These efforts are part of a larger initiative aimed at improving road infrastructure in the region. According to Ghana News Agency, the reshaping project includes significant reconstruction work across several districts. Specifically, 41 kilometers of road have been reconstructed in Dormaa East District, 17 kilometers in Dormaa West District, 12.9 kilometers in Berekum Municipality, and 12.8 kilometers in Berekum West District. Additionally, the project covered 10.1 kilometers in Jaman South Municipality, 6.4 kilometers in Jaman North District, 12.5 kilometers in Banda District, 60 kilometers in Wenchi Municipality, and 21 kilometers in Dormaa Municipality. Mr. Asomah-Kyeremeh noted that the DRIP is a transformative initiative with substantial impacts on local communities. The reshaping of access roads is spurring economic growth and development, significantly affecting the socio-economic livelihoods of the people. He emphasized the government's goal for communities to take ownership of their roads and highlighted the positive impact of DRIP's implementation in farming communities. Further, Mr. Asomah-Kyeremeh outlined a detailed action plan for the DRIP to ensure that all deplorable roads in the districts and municipalities are captured and reconstructed. He pointed out that the reshaping of roads like the Badu-Seikwa road has facilitated easier transportation of food produce to marketing centers for farmers. The implementation of DRIP has faced challenges, including fuel supply for machinery and operator allowances. However, the government has addressed these issues, ensuring the continuation of road construction work in the region. Mr. Asomah-Kyeremeh concluded by stating that while DRIP has only been operational for three months, it has already proven to be a vital tool for rural devel opment. He urged municipal and district assemblies to ensure the reshaping of all bad roads within their areas.
