Accra: Priority View Homes, an Accra-based construction firm, has officially commenced the construction of affordable housing for cocoa farmers in Gomoa Dahom and its surrounding areas in the Central Region. This initiative marks the beginning of a housing scheme aimed at alleviating the accommodation challenges faced by farmers in the area.

According to Ghana News Agency, the decent rental housing project for farmers has already started in the Gomoa Central District and is set to be extended to all cocoa farming communities across the country. The project aims to provide affordable housing options for farmers. Mr. Eric Affaidu, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Priority View Homes, who initiated the sod-cutting ceremony, emphasized that the project seeks to honor and motivate cocoa farmers, who have long been overlooked.

The CEO noted that the housing project for cocoa farmers was long overdue, highlighting that many farmers have regretted their decision to enter the sector due to the poverty they face. He explained that the housing initiative is designed to inspire and encourage cocoa farmers to continue their work, offering them the opportunity to acquire homes with installment payment plans after the cocoa harvest.

Mr. Affaidu expressed concern over Ghana losing its position as the world’s leading cocoa producer. He urged farmers who have abandoned their farms to return, assuring them that his firm will support them in securing decent housing with flexible terms. He affirmed that the housing scheme is a permanent initiative, and his company, equipped with resources and expertise in construction, is committed to completing the project as planned to honor the farmers.

Nana Kwa-Prah Ababio VII, Chief of Gomoa Dahom, expressed gratitude to Priority View Homes for the initiative and encouraged cocoa farmers in the town and the Gomoa Central District to take advantage of the scheme. The Dahomhene called for collective efforts to support the project and ensure its successful completion for the benefit of cocoa farmers.
