Sekondi-takoradi: The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) on Saturday organized a clean-up exercise across the metropolis as part of the National Sanitation Day.
According to Ghana News Agency, some residents, shop owners, transport operators, and businesses participated in the exercise to clean their frontages to promote a safe and cleaner environment across the metropolis. Mr. Frederick F. Faidoo, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), who led the exercise, said it was aimed at ridding the metropolis of filth and desilting choked drains to ensure a healthy and safe living environment for the people of Sekondi-Takoradi.
However, Mr. Faidoo expressed dissatisfaction with the low participation of residents in the National Sanitation Day across the metropolis. He noted that he was not impressed by the turnout as many residents continued with their commercial activities instead of joining the clean-up efforts to ensure a clean metropolis for all.
Mr. Faidoo emphasized the need for more resident involvement, stating, “For the Sanitation Day activities today, I am not satisfied at all because I can see commercial activities going on when the people should all have stopped to take part in cleaning up their surroundings.” He further mentioned that the Assembly would devise appropriate strategies to ensure full participation of all residents in future editions, stressing, “It is for our own good so we must show concern and be totally involved.”
