Accra: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has successfully rescued 60 victims of human trafficking between September 5 and 19, 2025. The operation, led by the CID, resulted in the rescue of both local and foreign nationals, with 41 foreign nationals being rescued in Ghana and 19 others rescued abroad.
According to Ghana News Agency, Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director-General of CID, provided details at a media briefing in Accra. She stated that all rescued individuals have been handed over to the appropriate authorities to facilitate their reintegration with their families. COP Donkor highlighted that traffickers often entice victims with the promise of lucrative job opportunities abroad, only to exploit them later.
The investigation revealed that traffickers are employing new methods, including transiting victims through multiple countries to avoid detection. COP Donkor emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Police administration in combating human trafficking. She warned the public that no legitimate recruitment agency would require an individual to travel by road through several countries as part of an employment process, urging individuals to verify the authenticity of job offers before proceeding.
COP Donkor also reminded the public that it is a criminal offense to lure or recruit individuals under false pretenses, and those found guilty will face severe legal consequences. She encouraged victims of trafficking to report to the nearest police station for assistance and stressed the importance of collective efforts in this fight. Families, communities, and survivors are urged to share their experiences to prevent others from becoming victims.
