Dansoman: The Dansoman Circuit Court has remanded a trader into police custody for allegedly attempting to engage in human trafficking. Victoria Ogbonna, a 33-year-old Nigerian national residing in Bogoso, pleaded not guilty to the charge of ‘attempt to commit crime to wit human trafficking.’ She is expected to reappear on October 30, 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Emelia Mensah, informed the court that on October 6, 2025, at around 1200 hours, Ogbonna was seen at Kwame Nkrumah Circle with the victim, whose identity has been withheld. The court was told that Ogbonna allegedly transported the victim from Nigeria to Ghana with the intention of coercing her into prostitution.
Upon their arrival in Ghana, Ogbonna reportedly took the victim to Driver’s Lodge Hotel located at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and confined her in a room without providing any explanation. An informant, who is a witness in the case, learned about the situation and went to the hotel, where the victim was rescued with the help of others.
The prosecution stated that the victim was subsequently brought to the police station for further investigation. During her caution statement, Ogbonna acknowledged bringing the victim to Ghana but refuted any involvement in human trafficking activities.
