Tunisia to develop socio-economic model to address climate change impacts (Health Minister)

Health Minister, Ali Mrabet, underlined, Sunday, in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), that "Tunisia started developing a socio-economic model to address climate change." During his participation in the first ministerial meeting on health and climate, held on the sidelines of the COP 28 Conference, the minister indicated that Tunisia is seeking to upgrade the health system, increase its effectiveness in the face of climate change, by implementing the national strategy to reduce CO2 emissions and improve the management of health issues linked to climate change in partnership with all the institutions and programmes concerned. The Health Ministry launched a permanent structure in charge of climate change and its repercussions on public health, Mrabet said, adding that it also developed a plan to evaluate and develop the work of basic health centers so to increase their readiness to face climate change. The Health Minister called on the international community to support health systems so as to deal with emergenc ies and protect citizens' health against climate change in a way that guarantees equality between populations and their right to health and life.
