Kumasi: We Are Africa Mission (WIAM) has officially launched its AI in Schools Initiative, a pioneering national project aimed at integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) education into the Ghanaian school system. The initiative begins with a pilot programme in selected schools in Kumasi, aiming to equip students with essential 21st-century digital skills to prepare them for the future of work in an increasingly technology-driven world.
According to Ghana News Agency, over the next three years, WIAM plans to expand the programme nationwide, transforming classrooms into AI-powered learning hubs. A press statement signed by Metoh Mbah Joachim Jr., Co-founder and CEO of WIAM, underscored the importance of AI education in shaping Ghana’s future. “Artificial Intelligence is no longer a luxury – it is the backbone of modern education, innovation, and economic growth,” he said. “With this initiative, Ghana can leapfrog into the future, giving every child the tools to compete globally while solving local challenges.”
WIAM highlights four key areas where the project is expected to have a significant impact, including future workforce preparedness, economic transformation, national development, and global leadership. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES), and local technology experts. The organisation is also engaging universities, private sector innovators, and development partners to strengthen the programme’s impact.
The first pilot classrooms in Kumasi are expected to be launched within the next three months. These classrooms will feature AI-powered learning tools, trained teachers, and fully equipped digital labs. Additionally, WIAM is planning a national education forum in Accra to bring together key government officials, educators, and industry stakeholders to discuss scaling up AI education across the country.
WIAM is a Pan-African innovation and development organisation dedicated to empowering African communities through technology, education, and sustainable development solutions.
