It’s important to be consistent: Isaacs

Black Africa (BA) Football Club coach Brian Isaacs said with consistency his team will move out of the relegation zone before the end of the 2022/23 Debmarine Namibia Premiership season.

Black Africa which is currently 14th on the log of a 16-team Premiership stands a chance of being relegated at the end of the season if they don’t improve on their position.

On Saturday at the Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) Sports Field in Olympia, 10-times Namibia Premier League winner BA got the better of their arch-rival Orlando Pirates in the Katutura derby.

Two impressive goals from BA striker Petrus Sakaria saw them win the game 2-0 as they started on their journey of moving up the table away from the relegation zone with eight games left in this year’s season.

BA was the hungrier team on the day as they created more scoring opportunities earlier on in the game but could not find the back of the net until midway through the match when a brilliant strike from Petrus Sakaria saw Pirates goalkeeper Pieter Tshiamijo exposed.

Sakaria once again found the back of the net in the second half as he caught the Pirate defence napping.

In an interview with the media after the match, Isaacs said the win was important because Pirates is a team they don’t want to lose against.

“We cannot afford to lose points and games in the position that we are in. It’s important to be consistent and accumulate as many points as possible,” said Isaacs.

The coach added that the newly recruited BA coach Bobby Samaria will also play the head coach role as they are both going to use their experience to get the team out of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Michael Pienaar, Orlando Pirates assistant coach said their players didn’t execute the created opportunities, therefore BA managed to capitalise on theirs.

“We now have to go back to the drawing board to see where to change. We need the points and the players need to show hunger as well as character,” Pienaar said.

In other matches played on Saturday, Citizens won their first match of the season with a 2-1 score against Tura Magic at the Khomasdal Stadium, while African Stars lost their first match of the season against Blue Waters in Walvis Bay.

In Okahandja, Rundu-based Julinho Sporting lost 3-2 to the home team Okahandja United and relegation-threatened Eleven Arrow managed to collect a point at home after a two-all draw against Young Brazilian in Walvis Bay.

At the UNAM stadium here, UNAM collected maximum points after their 1-0 win against Civics, while in the Otjiwarongo, Mighty Gunner beat Life Fighter 1-0.

Three charged in teacher’s robbery case at Rundu

The police in the Kavango East region have charged three suspects out of the eight arrested on Thursday in connection with a robbery incident on a teacher at the Rudolf Ngondo Primary School in Rundu.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Acting Regional Commander in the Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner Eino Nambahu confirmed to Nampa on Sunday that the suspects were arrested at a bar in Sikanduko informal settlement at around 11h00.

He said the Polo used in the crime was also retrieved on Saturday, hidden in a yard in the Sauyemwa informal settlement.

However, the number plate on the vehicle was removed during the robbery and replaced later Nambahu revealed.

“One of the suspects is wanted in other cases in Windhoek. The victim's handbag which was snatched with cash was also found on Sunday dumped with her documents scattered in the bushes,” the Deputy commissioner said.

The victim's bag he added was found near the bar where the suspects were arrested.

The three suspects have been charged on charges of robbery and are expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

It is alleged that two men jumped over the school fence and held a male and a female, at knifepoint in a classroom.

The suspects allegedly injured the male teacher and grabbed the female teacher’s handbag which contained N.dollars 14 000, before making their way over the fence and speeding off in a silver Polo without a number plate.

The N.dollars 14 000 which belonged to the school was allegedly withdrawn from Bank Windhoek on the same day and was meant for a regional sports event the teachers were assisting in organising.

Police investigations into the matter continue.

Erongo Governor donates two classrooms in celebration of birthday

Erongo Governor Neville Andre Itope led the commencement of the construction of a block of two classrooms at the Seaside Primary School in Walvis Bay, in celebration of his birthday, on 14 April.

The governor is leading the project, and together with his office staff are constructing the block with the assistance of different stakeholders including contractors, trainee constructors from the Community Skills Development Centre (COSDEC) as well as those who have donated the building materials.

“My office is prioritising education particularly this year because we have noticed the number of challenges faced by the region in the entire education sector, from a shortage of classrooms to textbooks.

This burden is mainly from the huge influx of people moving to the region in search of better livelihood, which obviously increases the need for more spacing in schools and everywhere else,” the governor noted.

The two classrooms will be constructed with pre-cast materials at the cost of close to N.dollars 200 000 and are expected to be completed within one week.

The governor emphasised that utilising the cheap method would assist many schools facing the same classroom shortage problem.

Compared to the traditional building material which would cost over N.dollars 2.5 million and three months to complete, construction with the pre-cast material is cheaper and faster to complete.

The Seaside Primary School was one of the schools identified by the Directorate of Education in the Region, as it has a lack of classrooms.

The School’s Acting Principal Lucinda Resandt in an interview with Nampa said the school is currently operating on a platoon system as a result of a shortage of classrooms and the initiative could not have come at a better time.

“We currently have 11 classrooms of grades 0-4 operating on the platoon and five floating teachers as there are not enough classrooms for each teacher to have their own classrooms,” she said.
