Assin odumasi: In a collaborative effort to boost agricultural yields, the Assin Odumasi Restoration Child and Youth Development Center (AORCYDC) and Compassion International have distributed assorted agro-chemicals and fertilizers to 80 farmers in the region. The initiative aims to enhance crop growth and productivity in the area.

According to Ghana News Agency, the donation included various insecticides, fungicides, weedicides, and fertilizers, valued at an estimated GHS56,000.00. During the presentation, Rev John Evans Arthur, a Reverend Minister at the Abura Dunkwa Assemblies of God Church, emphasized the importance of following the instructions provided with each chemical. He warned of the potential health and environmental risks associated with improper use of these products.

Rev Arthur also highlighted the long-term negative effects that continuous use of agro-chemicals can have on soil quality, water bodies, biodiversity, pollinators, and climate conditions. He urged farmers to adhere to the intended use of the products and mentioned that a team of inspectors would visit the farms to provide updates to AORCYDC for future decision-making.

Project Director Mr. Iftikhar Ahmed Fenyo echoed these sentiments, advising farmers on the potential environmental hazards of misusing agro-chemicals. He pointed out that improper use could lead to contamination of groundwater and nearby water bodies, posing risks to aquatic ecosystems and human health. He also advised farmers to store the chemicals safely, away from their homes, to prevent accidents.

Beneficiary Mrs. Joyce Owusu expressed her gratitude, noting that the timely arrival of the agro-chemicals would significantly enhance her farm’s productivity.
