Abuja: The Fund for Export Development in Africa (FEDA), a key equity investment arm of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), has announced the successful expansion of its membership. The Republic of Senegal and the Republic of Liberia have acceded to the FEDA Establishment Agreement, while the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Republic of Angola have ratified the Agreement. According to African Press Organization, these developments underscore FEDA's growing influence across the continent and its role in addressing the equity funding gap in Africa. With Senegal and Liberia joining, FEDA's membership now spans twenty-four countries. The ratification by Zimbabwe and Angola further solidifies FEDA's foundation to back investment opportunities in strategic industrial sectors and critical mineral processing within these nations. FEDA's membership growth enhances its capacity to fulfill its mandate and forge robust partnerships with both governments and the private sector. The Fund's expanding geographic reac h is pivotal in its mission to support transformative regional investments by providing equity, quasi-equity, and other patient capital to projects that foster economic diversification, regional integration, and export development. As FEDA broadens its continental presence, the Fund aims to collaborate closely with member states to identify investment opportunities with strong commercial viability and developmental impact. This involves attracting additional capital alongside FEDA's resources and forming strategic partnerships with public and private investors to boost investment for African businesses and projects. Dr. George Elombi, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank and FEDA, emphasized the increasing confidence of African governments in their institutions and the commitment to mobilizing African capital for development. Emmanuel Assiak, CEO of FEDA, highlighted the investment opportunities in Senegal, Liberia, Angola, and Zimbabwe, expressing anticipation of leveraging the e xpanded footprint to fortify local and regional value chains and deliver sustainable economic impact. Over the last five years, FEDA has significantly bolstered its investment capacity, with Afreximbank's commitment rising from US$100 million to US$1.3 billion, facilitating the Fund's expansion into a wider array of regions and sectors.
