Likpe Mate: Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has assured the chiefs and residents of the Guan District in the Oti Region of the construction of an Agenda 111 hospital to enhance healthcare services in the area. He emphasized the necessity of equipping the newly established district with a hospital to ensure it is on par with other districts across the nation. According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Bawumia made this commitment during a stakeholder engagement at Likpe Mate as part of his campaign tour. He also addressed various challenges the district faces, including water supply, security, and education. Dr Bawumia expressed his intention to prioritize agriculture by setting up district agricultural mechanization centers nationwide to support farmers. Dr Bawumia announced a 50% reduction in public transport costs on routes served by newly commissioned electric buses. He also proposed amending Section 63 of the Chieftaincy Act to empower chiefs in resolving loc al issues and participating in governance. Additionally, he promised to extend allowances to chiefs and queens and collaborate with the House of Chiefs to codify succession lines to prevent disputes. He further stated that churches and Islamic institutions would be recognized as development partners, receiving support to enhance their contributions. Dr Bawumia reiterated his government's stance against LGBTQ+ practices, aiming to protect the state's values. A 'buy Ghana first' policy was also proposed to prioritize the procurement of locally made products. To empower the youth, Dr Bawumia pledged to provide digital skills training to 5,000 young people from Guan, enabling them to work remotely and earn a living. He also promised free tertiary education for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and assured that government recruitment would reserve a percentage of jobs for PWDs to benefit from their expertise. Dr Bawumia added that individuals with a Ghana Card would no longer need to fill out forms to acquire a passport. Mr. Michael Osibo, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Guan, expressed his commitment to serving the constituents and urged voters to support both his and Dr Bawumia's candidacies for necessary development. Nana Bulley Osai VII, Nifahene of the Likpe Traditional Area, expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia becoming Ghana's next president and highlighted the district's past sufferings. He called on Dr Bawumia to address the poor road conditions and provide allowances for hardworking gazetted chiefs. Nana Osai praised Dr Bawumia's capability to upgrade educational and healthcare facilities and ensure the provision of safe drinking water in the region. Earlier, Dr Bawumia visited the Biakoye and Buem Constituencies, engaging with stakeholders, including religious and traditional leaders, and youth groups.
