Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Madam Maame Efua Sekyi-Aidoo Houadjeto as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA). Madam Houadjeto takes over from Mr. Akwesi Agyeman, who stepped down earlier this year after eight years of leadership at the Authority.

According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Houadjeto was previously a parliamentary candidate aspirant for the Mfantsiman Constituency in the upcoming 2024 general elections and has served as the Deputy Women's Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Her new role at the GTA will involve steering the agency, which operates under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, in its mission to promote tourism, marketing, and ensure quality assurance across the sector.

Madam Houadjeto's appointment comes at a strategic time, with the government's 'The Black Star Experience' programme poised to reshape the tourism and creative arts industries. She is expected to work closely with the sector ministry and related agencies to continue the progress made during the previous administration.

The GTA has been instrumental in advancing Ghana's tourism sector, leading initiatives like the 'Year of Return' and 'Beyond the Return,' which have greatly boosted international visitor numbers in recent years.
