Newmont Akyem Development Foundation Hands Over Sports Arena to Adausena Community

Adausena: The Newmont Akyem Development Foundation (NAkDeF) has officially transferred a newly commissioned sports arena to the Adausena community in the Birim North District of the Eastern region. This initiative aims to enhance community support and encourage participation in sports, promoting a healthier lifestyle for the residents.

According to Ghana News Agency, the facility includes various amenities such as basketball and tennis courts, VIP stands, a gym, and washrooms, meeting the needs of the local community. Mr. Paul Apenu, the Executive Secretary of NAkDeF, emphasized the importance of the arena in fostering sports and physical activities among the youth and students in the district. He noted the seating capacities of 410 for the basketball court and 402 for the tennis court, asserting that the facility would not only boost interest in these sports but also serve as a source of income when hired out to groups or sports teams.

Mr. Apenu assured stakeholders of a maintenance and management plan to ensure revenue generated would be used for the upkeep of the center. Nana Boni Abankro V, Chief of Adausena, expressed gratitude to NAkDeF and pledged to maintain the facility. He urged the District Education Directorate's Sports Unit to host activities at the arena to enhance community engagement and financial resources.

Mr. Kennedy Ohene Boafo, the Birim North District Sports Coordinator, announced plans for a talent session and training for youth and students, with the goal of nurturing players for regional and national levels. Mr. Elisha Asiedu-Amponsah, Board Chairman of NAkDeF, highlighted the importance of youth development and reaffirmed the foundation's dedication to supporting sustainable infrastructure projects and community initiatives. He called for continuous collaboration between company representatives and local leaders to ensure the success of NAkDeF's projects.
