It is structured to include zonal stakeholder engagement and town hall meetings across five thematic areas, which are infrastructure, quality education, regulations, accountability and governance, education financing, and research and data. Professor George K.T. Oduro, Chairman of the National Education Forum Planning Committee, announced these details during a press briefing.
Prominent Ghanaian Diaspora figures, Prof. Joseph S. Agbenyega and Prof. Kwame Akyeampong, are scheduled as keynote speakers. The zonal engagements are set to begin in the Volta and Oti regions on February 19, with subsequent meetings planned in Accra, Cape Coast, Bolgatanga, Tamale, and Kumasi through February 26.
Prof. Oduro elaborated that the theme was developed by evaluating the strategic plan for education (2018-2030) and aligning it with the manifesto of the National Democratic Congress, alongside consultations with key stakeholders in the education sector. A dedicated page has been set up on the Ministry of Education's website for citizens and the diaspora to anonymously send their comments and proposals.
The initiative follows the inauguration of an eight-member National Education Forum Planning Committee by Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, on February 5. This committee is tasked with developing a guiding theme and sub-themes for stakeholder engagement and identifying key stakeholders within the education sector, including students, parents, teachers, researchers, civil society organizations, and development partners. Other committee members include Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Dr. Samuel Awuku, Professor Smile Dzisi, Mr. Kofi Asare, Mr. Stephen Owusu, and Mr. Inusah Shiraz.
