Amasaman: The Manager of Joonak Roofing is facing charges at the Amasaman Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding an individual of GHC14,000.00.

According to Ghana News Agency, Clement Acquah Jonah allegedly obtained the money from Nana Offei under the pretense of supplying roofing sheets, which he has denied. The court has granted him a GHC50,000.00 bail with two sureties, who are required to present valid national identity cards at the Court's Registry.

Acquah is scheduled to appear again on April 6, 2025. The court has instructed the prosecution to provide him with the necessary documents for the Case Management Conference. Police Chief Inspector Frederick Ansah-Awuah informed the court, presided over by Ms. Enid Marful-Sau, that the complainant, Nana Offei, is an accountant residing in Sarpeiman, while the accused resides in Kasoa.

On October 16, 2024, Offei engaged Acquah, who claimed to be a manager at Joonak Roofing, to roof three buildings in Adjen Kotoku. After negotiations, Acquah charged Offei GHC14,000.00, which was paid in full. However, Acquah allegedly purchased roofing sheets of inferior quality and only partially completed the work, citing company issues for the incomplete job.

Efforts by Offei to contact Acquah were unsuccessful until he used a different phone number to lure Acquah into believing there was another contract, leading to his arrest. Following an investigation, Acquah was charged with the offense.

Acquah's counsel argued for bail, stating it was a contractual matter and that his client intended to prove his innocence in court. The counsel also noted that Acquah was a first-time offender and had individuals willing to act as sureties.
