sSunyani: Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, has called on banking institutions to extend financial support to women involved in small-scale businesses and entrepreneurship. He emphasized that such support would empower these women, enhance their economic activities, and contribute to building a resilient local economy, thereby spurring economic growth and development.

According to Ghana News Agency, the paramount chief made these remarks during a meeting with delegates from five major banking institutions who visited him in Sunyani. The delegation included Mr. Foster Frimpong, the Head of Marketing at Fidelity Bank; Mr. Solomon Bennett, the Sunyani Branch Manager at Fidelity Bank; Mr. Urbanus Mbit Abotiyunre, the Customer Service Manager at Ecobank; and Mr. Mohammed Awudu, the Sunyani Branch Manager at Ecobank. Also present were Mr. Philip Selorm Adika, the Sunyani Branch Manager at Fidelity Bank; Mr. Justice, the Head of Operations at GT Bank; and Mr. Alhassan Sumaila, the Sunyani Branch Manager at GT Bank.

Odeefour Ogyeamansan Korkor II highlighted the importance of banks investing in the local economy to build a more resilient society for economic development. He urged the banks to expand their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in local communities, noting that despite their contributions to economic growth, their visibility in CSR efforts in these areas remained limited.

He pointed out that investments in CSR programs could enhance the banks' images while addressing the development needs of local communities. The paramount chief also expressed concern over the halted construction of the Bono Regional Library in Sunyani, which has been left to deteriorate, and urged the banks to assist in completing the project.

Furthermore, Odeefour Ogyeamansan assured the banks that the Sunyani Traditional Council was willing to provide land for establishing additional branches, aiming to alleviate the high rent charges that the banks currently face. The bankers, in turn, congratulated the paramount chief on his enstoolment and pledged their commitment to supporting the development of the Traditional Area.
