Berekum: The just ended Ghana Medical Relief health outreach conducted in the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region dispensed more than 8,000 prescriptions, ensuring patients received the necessary medications to manage various health conditions.

According to Ghana News Agency, to enhance long-term healthcare access, GMR also sponsored the acquisition of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards for 2,370 individuals, enabling them to continue receiving medical care beyond the outreach. A statement issued by the GMR on the outcome of the outreach and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the outcome of the health outreach said about 10,029 residents benefited from the free medical health screening.

The five-day outreach, held at Holy Family Hospital in Berekum, provided a wide range of essential health services to residents and surrounding communities. It was organized in partnership with the Berekumman Citizens Association, iPHET, and other collaborators and offered specialized care in pediatric urology, general medicine, dental treatment, obstetrics, and more.

The statement indicated that: ‘As part of its commitment to community capacity building, GMR conducted Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training for Immigration Officials and High School students, equipping them with life-saving skills to effectively respond to cardiac emergencies.’ Furthermore, medical supplies and equipment were donated to the Holy Family Hospital to support ongoing healthcare delivery.

It said over the past eight years, GMR has provided free medical services to more than 50,000 individuals across six regions of Ghana through its annual health missions held every July powered by a dedicated team of volunteers from both the United States and Ghana.

The President of GMR, Dr Samuel Kwapong Owusu, together with other leadership members, including Dr. William Rockson, Richard Owusu, and Samuel Brobbey expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the success of this year’s medical outreach during an interview at the program’s closing ceremony. ‘The leadership emphasized their commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare and encouraged residents to make their health a priority as part of efforts to build healthier communities’, it added.
