Absa and L’Atelier Ambassador Gandor Collins Unveil Solo Exhibition in Ghana

Accra: Absa is proud to announce the upcoming solo exhibition of Gandor Collins, Absa L’Atelier 2022 Ambassador, taking place at Ghana’s Mix Design Hub. Collins’ practice bridges the historical and contemporary, drawing deeply from Ghana’s past to reflect on its evolving artistic future. His work speaks to identity, heritage, and imagination, offering audiences a dialogue between history and the present moment.

According to Ghana News Agency, this exhibition is part of Absa’s new series of gallery showcases spotlighting the Absa L’Atelier Ambassadors, rising stars in African contemporary art whose work captures the depth and complexity of the continent. As part of their L’Atelier journey, each Ambassador is awarded a fully sponsored solo exhibition, providing a rare opportunity to present their work in leading galleries across Africa. These exhibitions are a cornerstone of the Absa L’Atelier programme, which is now in its 39th year.

‘At the heart of the Absa L’Atelier is the belief that every artist’s story matters,’ says Dr Paul Bayliss, Absa Senior Specialist Art Curator. ‘Gandor Collins’ work embodies this belief, drawing inspiration from Ghana’s past to shape conversations about the continent’s future. We are honoured to support him in presenting his vision to the world.’

Gandor Collins shared, ‘This platform has allowed me to bring together stories of Ghana’s history with the present energy of its people. My work is about preserving memory while imagining new futures. To showcase this journey in my home country, with the support of Absa and the L’Atelier, is both humbling and empowering.’

Absa L’Atelier is a pan-African art competition providing winning artists with the skills and opportunities to thrive in their practice.
