Accra: Mr Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, the Minister for Government Communications, has emphasized the pivotal role that communicators and Public Relations (PR) professionals play in addressing the uncertainties of today’s world. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA) Conference in Accra, he called on them to bridge divides and inspire collective action.

According to Ghana News Agency, the 3-day conference, themed ‘Global Realities and Innovative Communication,’ was organized by the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana in collaboration with the African Public Relations Association (APRA) and the IPRA. It gathered global leaders in communication to discuss the evolving nature of strategic communication in response to global shifts, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Africa’s development and addressing issues such as Galamsey through effective communication.

The Minister highlighted how technology is reshaping engagement rules, geopolitical changes are altering alliances, and environmental and social challenges are demanding new problem-solving approaches. He stressed that communicators are increasingly relied upon to provide clarity amidst these complexities and underscored the importance of effective messaging in building trust between leaders and citizens.

Mr Kwakye-Ofosu also noted the Government’s ‘reset agenda’ and livelihood enhancement initiatives, emphasizing their success depends on citizen understanding and participation. He pledged ongoing support for PR practitioners, including modernizing platforms such as Bonsu with AI tools for faster, clearer communication. Additionally, he confirmed progress on the IPR Bill under review by the Attorney General, highlighting its importance for giving PR legal recognition and professional protection in Ghana.

The Minister urged African communicators to reshape global perceptions of the continent, emphasizing the need to tell Africa’s story with honesty, confidence, and innovation. He also advised PR professionals to embrace AI responsibly, warning that the future of PR favors those who adapt creatively to technological change.

Madam Esther Amba Numaba Cobbah, President of IPR Ghana, encouraged PR professionals to adopt innovative and disciplined approaches in addressing global challenges. She stressed that effective communication bridges problems and solutions, noting that while the world faces numerous pressing issues, many are not addressed due to poor communication strategies.

Madam Cobbah highlighted the global nature of these challenges and urged communication professionals to devise fresh strategies. She emphasized that communication is a professional discipline that requires understanding innovations and the people they benefit, developing effective engagement approaches, and driving change through intentional, strategic, and people-centered communication.
