Accra: Gold Avenue School has emerged victorious in the 68th Independence Day Ghana Constitution Contest, organized by the Ga East Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).
According to Ghana News Agency, the competition featured schools from the Ga East Municipality, with Gold Avenue School securing the top spot with 56 points. The school also hosted the event. High Moral International School claimed the second position with 51 points, while Calvary Presbyterian School came third with 48 points. Camied Behill International School finished fourth, earning 44 points.
The quiz included questions on the 1992 Constitution and current affairs, with schools receiving preparation materials through their teachers and civic clubs. Madam Gemima Abena Konadu Mensah, Municipal Director for Ga East NCCE, stated that the competition aimed to help students grasp the 1992 Constitution and cultivate good citizenship.
Madam Mensah highlighted the importance of instilling values like discipline, patriotism, and nationalism in students, emphasizing that the initiative was part of the NCCE’s mandate under the 1992 Constitution to educate citizens about their rights and responsibilities.
She congratulated all participating schools and encouraged those who did not win to prepare for future competitions. Madam Mensah expressed her hope that these efforts would help raise a generation aware of Ghana’s cultural values and traditions.
Mr. Eric Sey, Municipal Director of Education at Ghana Education Service, Ga East, underscored the significance of developing young minds to prepare future leaders for Ghana’s advancement. He remarked that contests like the constitutional quiz foster essential qualities such as discipline, teamwork, and resilience, contributing to the country’s growth.
