Tema: Mr. Ludwid Teye Totimeh, the Chief Executive Officer for the Tema West Municipal Assembly, has vowed to summon shop owners and business operators who failed to participate in Saturday’s National Sanitation Day clean-up exercises despite earlier announcements by the assembly.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Totimeh noted that the clean-up exercise marked the re-launch of the National Sanitation Day, with Tema West having theirs in the vicinity of the Institute of Local Government. He emphasized the importance of this nationwide monthly clean-up exercise in addressing sanitation issues effectively.

Mr. Totimeh stated, “We need to keep our workplaces and community clean., and we, the Tema West Municipal Assembly, have also joined forces in observing the day just like any other municipality is doing.” The exercise commenced at the Texpo market and continued through the Community 18 junction and Sharon spot, specifically targeting the market area due to its critical role in food distribution.

He expressed concern over the unkempt conditions of these areas, which pose risks of food contamination and health hazards to residents. The assembly’s significant challenge, Mr. Totimeh noted, was the lack of participation from residents, market women, and shop owners, despite prior notifications from the assembly’s information department.

Mr. Totimeh urged residents to engage more proactively in future clean-up exercises, stressing that their involvement is crucial for their well-being and that the assembly or government alone cannot achieve these goals without community support. He further highlighted that regular cleaning and desilting of choked gutters could mitigate flood risks during rainy seasons.
