Banda-ahenkro: The Banda District Directorate of Education in the Bono Region has reported 17 cases of pregnancies among school girls in the area between January and September 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Banda District Girl Child Education Coordinator, Madam Alimatu Amadu, highlighted that in the same period in 2024, 11 school girls were impregnated. The pregnant girls were between the ages of 13 and 14, with 11 of them, including a 13-year-old class five pupil, having successfully delivered their babies.

Madam Amadu expressed concern over the increasing trend of teenage pregnancies, which she said is hindering girl-child education in the area. She called for collective efforts to tackle the issue effectively. The directorate is currently working with stakeholders to enhance advocacy efforts promoting girl-child education in the district.
