Wenchi: A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region has called for reconciliation towards rebuilding the party. Mr Richard Kwadwo Adu, a former Wenchi Youth Organiser of the NPP who made the call, urged the leadership of the party to forgive offences and call back all members and supporters who were sacked for various misconducts.
According to Ghana News Agency, in an interview on the performance of the NPP in the Election 2024 and the way forward, Mr Adu emphasized the need for a general overhauling of the executives at the national, regional, and constituency levels. He highlighted the importance of initiating reconciliation to restore loyal members such as Paul Afoko, a former national chairman, and Otiko Afisa Djaba, a former women's organiser.
Mr Adu expressed the belief that the party could regain its strength if members forgave each other and embraced the unity symbolized by their 'strong elephant family.' He criticized the severe sanctions imposed on loyal and founding members, suggesting that constitutional amendments might be necessary to retain loyal supporters.
He acknowledged that some members' conduct breached the NPP constitution but argued that expelling them for their misconducts might hinder the party's growth and development. Mr Adu stressed the need for introspection within the party to reflect on past decisions and address internal challenges.
Furthermore, Mr Adu addressed voter apathy among NPP members in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, urging party leadership to prioritize and address grassroots concerns. He highlighted the significance of strengthening constituency, electoral area, and polling station executives and providing them with logistical and financial support to ensure effective operations at the grassroots level. He concluded by emphasizing the need for these efforts to make the NPP more attractive while in opposition.
