Comedy sitcom “Familia Grande” launched on Tunisian streaming platform Artify

"Familia Grande", a miniseries dealing with media literacy and promoting critical thinking, was launched on the Tunisian streaming platform, Artify, on May 3, 2023, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day. Screening events for the miniseries will also take place in May and June 2023, in collaboration with Internews' local and media partners, and civil society organizations (CSOs). Produced by Internews in Tunisia (operating to promote access to reliable, quality news and information), funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), directed by Heifel Ben Youssef, and starring Manel Abdelakoui, Ridha Barhoumi, Marwene Bouzaine, and Feynen Mansouri, "Familia Grande" is a comedic miniseries that portrays the daily life of a Tunisian family and how they deal with misinformation on various digital and traditional information channels. It also addresses how information is received, how it affects their behaviours and emotions, and highlights how it should be discussed and analyzed. Available for free via this link, https://bit.ly/44nfAuS, the 5-episode sitcom of 5 to 7 minutes each, deals with current issues and real-life situations with a well-dosed note of humour to critically analyze media consumption behaviours and understand the impact of misinformation on individuals' mindsets and actions. The series, all episodes of which have been interpreted into sign language to enable vulnerable populations to follow and understand the sitcom's message, is part of a media literacy campaign that aims to build community resilience to misinformation and improve critical thinking skills, says a press release from Internews in Tunisia. Internews is an international nonprofit organisation that has been supporting independent media for more than 40 years, in 100 countries, from radio stations in refugee camps to hyper-local news outlets, activists and individual journalists. In Tunisia, the same source adds, more than 1,000 citizens participated in Internews' media landscape assessment and more than 100 journalists across the country were trained in disinformation and fact-checking.
